This week Strawberry got new shoes on! Horse shoes of course, which are made of aluminum and sometimes include rubber for special horses. When a horse is barefoot it can cause them to get a stone bruise. If a horse doesn't have shoes on and the ground is wet their sole gets very soft and can build up thrush. Thrush is black residue that builds in between the frog of their foot. Now, the stone bruise is caused by a soft sole and a horse stepping on a rock causing the blood vessels to become imfalmated. When you are shoeing a horse you must pull the toes back and leave the heels wide. If you shave the sole off too much it can also cause bruising. With the new shoes Strawberry has it will help keep her balanced and help prevent bruising. I also tried a new protocol, this protocol is called '' rescue.''
